Thailand Bans Alcohol for 2 weeks

Posted by admin on Dec 18 2007 | Thai News

On Friday 14th, Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th December no one can purchase alcohol in Thailand - local Thais, expats or tourists – because these are the days that Thais who have registered to vote will be voting. The second alcohol ban is due to the main elections taking place on Sunday 23rd December. No alcohol will therefore be sold again between 6pm on Saturday 22nd December and midnight on Sunday 23rd December. The publicized reason for this ban is that, particularly in rural areas, local politicians hold ‘voting’ parties where they give the locals free whiskey with the aim of buying their vote.

I know some of you have heard about this ban but I got an email from a friend of mine down in Krabi. She told me that she and her Thai boyfriend were at a local eatery and they both ordered a Singha and to her amazement, the saddened waitress told her that she could not have one and that there was a ban on it throughout Thailand. So, after her initial shock and some choice words she finally accepted it.

I’ve seen a couple places that are still selling them and I won’t expose them but they are in the tourist areas. I would assume that the Thai police can’t be everywhere 100% of the time.

At least there will be alcohol for New Years!…

Beautiful Thai Girls at Loy Krathong

Posted by admin on Dec 17 2007 | Thai Girls

Meeting Thai Girls at the Loy Krathong festival has got to be one of the best ways of meeting beautiful Thai girls that are out and about. A lot of my Thai and Farang friends go to this festival just to meet Thai girls. I wasn’t very shocked when I heard them tell me some of the stories/encounters they had with Thai girls down there. In fact, every year that I’ve been to this festival, I’ve always had tons of Thai girls checking me out. I’m not talking bar girls either. I’m talking about real single Thai girls looking for romance just like the rest of us single guys.

LIT-Post

For a lot of people, the Loy Krathong festival time is about letting go of anger and making a new start and having compassion in their hearts. The releasing of the little banana leaf and candle floats down the river seems a bit more about the fun than the actual ceremonious part of it. Well at least it seemed like that to me. Every single Thai girl that I met all were looking for someone to spend that celebration with. I know a lot of them went home empty handed but what can you do…

Trang, Thailand for New Years

Posted by admin on Dec 17 2007 | Travel Thailand

Well, it’s official. I will be in Trang for New Years. Not the Thai New Year but the one that takes place on December 31st and I’m so excited. I’ve only been to Trang one other time back in 2003 and when I was there I had the most enjoyable time. I spent 5 days in a bungalow out in the Sukorn Islands. Was one of the best trips I’ve had and that is why I’m so excited to get back down there. I’ve only been as far south as Krabi in recent years and getting down to see Trang again is going to be well worth it.

LIT-Post

Trang is a great place for Island hopping. You can’t beat the Sukorn Islands. In my opinion, it’s more beautiful than Phuket and a lot less tourists.

Trang was an important sea port of southern Thailand and according to legend the ships always arrived in the morning, which leads to the name of the town - The word “Trang” comes from the Maylay word for dawn.

So, if you get a chance, check out Trang. It’s a hot spot on my travel list.
